Former Ipswich Town defender Scott Mitchell has been appointed the head of recruitment at Championship side Oxford United.

The 39-year-old was surprisingly axed from his role at League One side Wycombe Wanderers as part of a restructure earlier this month.

Mitchell had been with the Chairboys since May last year, where he had been responsible for bringing players in fora side who sit top of the third tier under another former Town player in Matt Bloomfield.

Among those signings was Town midfielder Cameron Humphreys, who is on loan at Adams Park.

He join now joins Des Buckingham's U's side, who currently sit 16th in the second tier following their promotion last season. Mitchell will link-up with former Town players Kyle Edwards, Greg Leigh and Dane Scarlett at Oxford.

Prior to joining Wycombe, Mitchell had been working in Town's youth set-up, where he was the head of academy recruitment.

The Ely-born Mitchell came through the ranks at Portman Road, and made four appearances for the Blues under Joe Royle.

He left Town to join Scottish side Livingston in 2006, before moving to Peterborough United and then had spells in non-league.
