Ipswich women wanting to meet up with fellow Ella Toones, Leah Williamsons and Alex Greenwoods without the need for keeping score or knowing the rules of football are invited to join a new club.

Gals FC, a non-competitive football club will begin at Northgate Sports Centre on Tuesday, October 1 and will be held every week.

Rather than score keeping and tracking performance the goal of the sessions is to encourage more women into team sports by creating welcoming environments and to have fun.

Lorne Magill, 32, one of the co-founders of Gals FC, said: "We are super excited to be launching in Ipswich and can't wait to meet the great gals who live there.

"We have wanted to go into other towns and cities but have so much demand in London there is a waiting list.

"But one of our gals said she was moving back to Ipswich and wanted to take it with her."

The sessions are run by "Vibe Protectors" instead of referees and typically start with new faces introducing themselves followed by drills focussing on an aspect of playing.

After the drills, 30 minute games are played where everyone rotates position and no score is kept track of.

"Obviously it's exciting when someone scores, everyone cheers and it's amazing.

Ms Magill also said that she had never previously played football before and that other people shouldn't be discouraged if they haven't either.

She said: "We set up Gals FC because we were really lacking community and we weren't concerned about how people played football.

"We just wanted to make a way for us to play it and we have created this thing where people have fun and make new friends, and we really want to do the same in Ipswich."

Those who want to join Gals FC should get in touch with the club through their Instagram: Gals FC.
