Ipswich Town young goalkeeper Woody Williamson has joined National League South side Chelmsford City on loan.

The 18-year-old has just returned to full fitness after picking up a knock during a trial spell with Hemel Hampstead in the summer with a view to joining the Tudors on loan.

Williamson grew up in Chelmsford, supporting the Clarets and spent the second half of last season on loan with Cheshunt.

He now joins Robbie Simpson's side, who currently sit 16th in the sixth tier and already have fellow Town youngster Osman Foyo, who joined the Essex side earlier in the season.

His new manager said: “It was always our intention to sign another goalkeeper and with the signing of Woody we really feel that we now have two outstanding young goalkeepers with bags of potential.

"Woody has actually been signed for a few weeks now, having agreed the deal within Ipswich’s window but he unfortunately suffered an injury in the week he signed, however is back in full training now.

"It will be great competition between them both and they’ll push each other on and make each other better!"

The Scotland U19 international joined the Blues as a schoolboy in 2020, before signing his first professional deal at the club last summer.
