Aston Villa have signed Ipswich Town transfer target Jaden Philogene on a permanent deal from Hull City.

The versatile winger had been chased by a number of Premier League clubs, with Spanish giants FC Barcelona also reportedly interested.

With offers on the table from Ipswich, Everton and Crystal Palace, Philogene seemed keen on a move to Portman Road, but former club Aston Villa had the opportunity to match any offer made for him, opening the door for him to return to Villa Park.

The 22-year-old bagged 12 goals and six assists in the Championship last season, having joined the Tigers from Aston Villa in September 2023. The Blues were also keen on signing him then, but couldn't get a deal over the line.

The final fee is reported to be £18 million, but due Aston Villa's sell-on clause, they will only pay £13 million to bring Philogene back to the club. Ipswich were hoping to sign him and Hull team-mate Jacob Greaves together, but re-negotiated a separate deal for the latter which was completed over the weekend.

Unai Emery's side are preparing to compete in next season's Champions League, having last played in the competition back in the 1980's.
