LIAM Trotter is ready to further his footballing education by going out on loan again - but only if he is guaranteed games.
Trotter is pressing for a first team place and his two goals against Ipswich Wanderers on Wednesday night in front of Jim Magilton will have helped his cause.
But Trotter appreciates he still has some refining to do and needs experience.
Although he made two appearances while on a three-month stint at Willie Donachie's Millwall, Trotter will not make the mistake of going out again unless he knows he will benefit.
He said: “If a club came in that was going to give me regular football then I would go but I would want more of a chance to play than I had at Millwall.
“There would be no point going on loan somewhere unless I was playing, I may as well stay with Ipswich and play in the reserves and wait for my chance.”
Trotter made his first team debut as a late substitute in the final game of the season at Plymouth last year and played in the final few moments of Town's 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Watford in February.
“I have another 18-months on my contract so all I can do is keeping working hard and hope the gaffer gives me another chance in the first team.
“I'm still working to improve my game and hopefully I can break into the squad more next year.
Jim is always giving me pointers and I'm listening and learning and trying to do that out on the pitch. “One of the things he has told me to do is score more goals and I managed that against Wanderers.”
If Trotter doesn't go out on loan then he is happy enough to play his part in helping the reserves to a League and Cup double.
The Blues top the Combination Reserve league and reached the final of the Suffolk Premier Club with a 4-1 win at Wanderers and will meet the winners between Leiston and Newmarket who play next week.
IPSWICH could be facing a former Barcelona winger next Tuesday when they travel to Preston.
The Lilywhites have signed Portsmouth winger Franck Songo'o on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old, son of Cameroon World Cup goalkeeper Jacques, has struggled to make the breakthrough at Fratton Park, making just three first-team appearances - all as a substitute - since moving to Pompey from the Nou Camp in the summer of 2005.
