IPSWICH: Ten Town fans with football banning orders are to get their cards marked ahead of this year’s European Championships.
The hooligans are among nearly 2,500 supporters nationally who will be barred from travelling to the Ukraine and Poland this summer.
To ensure police know where they are the Home Office will be ordering the yobs to surrender their passports.
A total of 2,481 troublemakers around the country will be targeted in an attempt to prevent England supporters disgracing themselves during Euro 2012.
Among them are 26 Norwich City supporters.
Crime prevention minister Lord Henley said: “We are determined to ensure our football fans’ reputation for good behaviour continues and we will use all our powers to ensure those thugs intent on violence will not be allowed to travel to the Ukraine and Poland for the duration of Euro 2012.”
Lisa Miller, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary, said: “There are ten Ipswich Town fans in Suffolk who have football banning orders.
“The UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) make contact with those who have banning orders and make the decisions in relation to the reporting conditions and surrendering of passports while the Euro Championships are taking place.
“They also make the decision over any exemptions, for example if someone with a banning order is due to go out on holiday somewhere else in the world, not connected to where the matches are taking place.”
The hooligans are unlikely to be allowed to leave the country during an official “control period”, from May 29 to July 1.
