IPSWICH: With unflinching honesty Alison Studd’s mother today told how she had hoped that her daughter would one day be reconciled with her family.
The 36-year-old alleged murder victim died at Ipswich Hospital on January 27, after paramedics found her with fatal stab wounds at a house in Withipoll Street.
Miss Studd’s descent into alcoholism began when she was a young woman.
It led to her living a chaotic lifestyle among other street drinkers, and losing touch with those closest to her.
Although the mother-of-two - a boy and girl in their mid teens - struggled to cope with life, she was still dearly loved by her family.
Her mother Carol, who lives in Stowmarket, said: “Alison was a lovely girl who lost her way.
“I always hoped that Alison would one day return to the family. Now any glimmer of hope I had has been cruelly taken away and I feel so terribly aggrieved by this.
“Alison’s children had already suffered enough, but no matter how fragile their relationship with her may have been, it is tragic that they have now lost their mother.
“Alison had addictions, but she was not a bad person and had a loving heart.”
Miss Studd, who had lived in the Old Stoke area of Ipswich shortly before her death, died as a result of a leg wound.
It is understood she was unconscious when an ambulance crew got to the house in Withipoll Street shortly after 7pm on January 26.
Her injuries came after a woman sustained cuts to her body and arm in Carr Street – near Major’s Corner – around two hours earlier.
It is understood the 28-year-old had also been stabbed. She raised the alarm by running into Argos.
Ipswich man John Grimwood, of no fixed address, has been charged with Miss Studd’s murder.
The 28-year-old is also charged with wounding/GBH in relation to the incident in Carr Street.
Grimwood is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on April 28 for the next hearing of his case
A 59-year-old Ipswich woman and her 29-year-old son have also been arrested during the murder probe.
They are currently on police bail until March 29.
