Hundreds of students across Suffolk will receive their A-level and BTEC results today, including many in the Ipswich and Felixstowe areas.
We will bring you news throughout the day from schools in the area via this live feed, as the results roll in.
Some schools have not announced detailed results due to the impact of the continuing pandemic, but still wanted to praise their students for all their hard work and the successes they have achieved.
Copleston High School, Ipswich
Staff, students and parents at Copleston were today celebrating A-level successes, as principal Andy Green congratulated students and praised their "tireless" work during a uniquely challenging year.
A total of 137 students at Copleston took A-levels, with 86% achieving grades A* to C, while 99.7% achieved grades A* to E.
Mr Green said: "We would like to congratulate our students, their families and our staff on their successes in their A-level results this year.
"The last two academic years have been very challenging, and our students have worked tirelessly to ensure their studies remained a priority throughout the pandemic.
"We have many outstanding individual performances to celebrate. Throughout their time in the sixth form, our students have made a huge contribution to the school, and we wish them every success with the next stage of their career."
He said the results, were testament to the hard work of both students and staff all through the pandemic, and added: "The students have completed a huge number of assessments here to get these results, which are really deserved."
Mr Green said: "We are really excited and pleased with the results we have got. They're certainly the best we have ever had, and we have a huge number of students going to top universities."
Copleston student Laura Thomson gained three A*'s and one A. She said: "I'm going to the University of Bath to study computer science. I'm really excited."
Oliver Betts said: "I got an A*, an A and a B, and I am going to York to study maths and philosophy. I'm feeling brilliant about that.
"Learning at home was quite hard, trying to find the motivation to keep going. All through the pandemic, it has been a bit difficult, but we got through it and I'm happy with the grades I got."
Lucie Robbins, who got three A* and an A, is going to Royal Holloway to read astrophysics in September. "It's going to hard but really fun," she said.
And James Dolan said: "I am very happy. I got four A*s and that means I am going to to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. It feels really amazing."
Kesgrave High School
The school has paid tribute to students' hard work, with headteacher Julia Upton saying: "Students have learnt more than ever before from their last two years of academic study, having lived and learnt through two lockdowns during their A Level and BTEC studies.
"They have shown resilience and dedication like no other school year before them."
A total of 88% of grades were A*-C and 99.8% of results A*-E Grade.
Miss Upton said: "Whilst the process of awarding grades this year was unique, these results are no less well-deserved, and the students’ and teachers’ delight in their receipt no less heartfelt.
"These results reflect the hard work and dedication of all in the last two years. As they move on to university and employment, we know that these students will continue to make a positive contribution to the communities around them, through both their talent, but also their commitment and compassion."
Felixstowe School
Felixstowe School is congratulating its students on their A-level achievements and said all students wishing to study at degree level have been successful in obtaining their place at their chosen university.
The school said that, despite the challenging circumstances of the past couple of years, students are celebrating their Level 3 qualifications.
Assistant headteacher for sixth form, Xavier Norte, said: “I am so proud of all our students. They are a credit to the school and their families.
"It has been an extremely challenging couple of years for them, so It has been pleasing to see our students achieve their best and move on to the next stage of their lives. We wish all of our leavers every success in the future.”
Ipswich School
Ipswich School’s headmaster, Nicholas Weaver, said how proud he was of this year’s A-level students, as the results were announced today.
“Through the whole pandemic, this group of students have worked so hard to achieve these results.
"I am very proud of the way in which they have dealt with everything that has come their way - online learning, revisions to assessments and changes to what has been expected of them. Well done to them all,” he said.
A total of 119 students took A-levels, with 61.6% achieving A*-A grades, 96.6% achieving A* to C and 100% achieving A* to E.
Ben Althen and Ameera Cunningham each achieved five A* grades. Ameera will be studying natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, while Ben is going to be studying politics and international studies at Warwick University.
Head Girl Florence Grist achieved 4 A* grades and will be going to the University of Birmingham to study Music and Russian, and Head Boy Charlie Coe achieved 3 A* grades and is going to Durham University to study Geography.
Mr Weaver added: “I am also proud of the way in which our teaching staff have delivered an outstanding and comprehensive education through the most testing time, to ensure that our young people are well-prepared for the next stage of their journey.”
"Ipswich School is celebrating diversity across the excellent achievements of our students today. We have an exceptionally broad A-level curriculum with 27 subjects offered to students.
"It has been encouraging to see our two most recent additions to the curriculum, computer science and politics, prove popular and successful choices, with students achieving 22 A*-B grades in these new subjects."
One Sixth Form College, Ipswich
Jake Robson, Head of Centre at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, has congratulated staff and students on an impressive set of A-level results.
A total of around 600 students at One gained A-level pass rates of 85.17% at A* to C and 99.16% at A* to E. A-level students in over half of all subjects gained more than 60% A* to B grades, while 100% of 446 BTEC students passed.
Mr Robson said: “This is an incredible achievement and I’d like to congratulate all of our students and staff for all that they have done to support one another to get some impressive, and well deserved, grades.
"They should be applauded not just for their talents and skills, but also for their resilience and dedication.”
Tim Leese from East Bergholt is one of two students who will be studying at Cambridge University, after receiving four A*s.
Tim said: “I’ve got a place at St John’s College in Cambridge to study engineering that I have deferred for a year. In the next 12 months I’m looking to find an engineering related experience to find out what it’s like working in that area. I’ve enjoyed the experience at One and I would recommend it to others.”
Dr Nikos Savvas, chief executive of Eastern Colleges Group, which represents One, Abbeygate Sixth Form College and West Suffolk College, said: “What is vital is not just the outcomes that a student achieves, but how they will then use these grades in the future.
"Our role as a group of colleges is as much about aspiration as it is about achievement – and we all take great pride in the fact that our students will go onto to influence so many areas of business, enterprise and public life in the future.”
Northgate High School, Ipswich
Northgate has paid tribute to its "wonderful year group" of students, who received their results this morning, and praised the way they have dealt with the impact of the pandemic.
John Alexander, head of sixth form, said ‘We are delighted that our students are moving on to brighter futures across a variety of fields and further education opportunities.
"As a year group, they have given so much back to the Northgate community, in such a short space of time, that they will live long in our memories as a wonderful year group.’
Headteacher Rowena Mackie said ‘We are immensely proud of our students, who have remained positive, worked hard and with determination, despite facing many obstacles over the past two years.
"They have shown real resilience in completing their studies to the best of their ability and this is testament to the teachers, support staff and parents and carers, who have worked tirelessly to support their progress over the last two years. Our students have been a pleasure to teach and work with as a year group, and we wish them all the best for their futures.’
Ipswich High School
Pupils from Ipswich High School are today celebrating record-breaking A-level results, after 25% of Year 13 students achieved three or more A* grades, with a100% pass rate achieved.
A total of 30 students took A-levels and achieved 93% A*-C and 100% A*-E grades, with a 40% figure for A*-A.
Mark Howe, the school’s head, said: “These outstanding A-level results are a true testament to the remarkable combination of our amazing Year 13 students, our supportive parent body and the inspirational teaching they have enjoyed, both in school and during periods of remote learning.
"I hope these students are as proud as we all are of their success, which they have achieved in the face of considerable challenges."
Daisy Ashe, former head girl, achieved two A* and two A grades, and will be reading veterinary medicine at Nottingham University in 2022. She said “I really cannot say thank you enough to my teachers, they have done so much for me and have pushed me beyond what I thought I would achieve."
Cara Bland achieved four A* grades, including her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and will be reading Medicine at UCL. She said “Thank you so much to my teachers, I doubted myself so much, but the teachers have been amazingly supportive.”
Emily Akister, another former head girl, also received four A* and will read dental surgery at Plymouth University.
Royal Hospital School, Holbrook
The Royal Hospital School has seen an upward trend in its A-level and BTEC results, which it says reflects the hard
work and determination of pupils throughout the pandemic.
Headmaster Simon Lockyer said: “Overall, the results for this strong cohort reflect a high level of achievement with 35% A* exceeding all previous performances.
"This year group has encountered almost two years of disruption and the associated anxiety this will have caused.
Therefore, I am immensely proud and pleased of all that they have achieved both academically and through the
example they have set for others throughout the school.
"We look forward to following their progress, in whatever path they follow."
Of the 80 pupils studying A Levels and BTECs this academic year, 40% were awarded the points equivalent of three A grades or better.
The school had 92% A*-C grades, 100% A* to E grades and 59% A*-A grades, while 89% of BTEC pupils achieved at least one distinction grade.
Catherine Stevens, deputy head (academic) said: "Despite a further year of disruption, I am delighted for the vast majority of our pupils who have gained grades which have enabled them to move on to the next stage of their education or employment."
One of the heads of school, Jessie Jordan, received two A* and an A, and will be going to the University of Nottingham to study law with Spanish, which she hopes will lead her to becoming a human rights lawyer in the future.
Jessie said, “RHS has equipped me with some really key skills. It's taught me the skills of leadership, as well as
the resilience to overcoming difficult challenges with a positive mental attitude.”
The other head of school, Jason Sims, has also secured a place at the University of Nottingham to study Law having been awarded three A*.
St Joseph's College, Ipswich
There was a "celebratory mood" at St Joseph's College today, when a 100% A-level pass rate was revealed, including 47% at A*/A and outstanding
achievement across BTEC and CTEC subjects.
Danielle Clarke, principal of the college, said: ‘Far from being denigrated as the “Covid generation”, these students deserve the highest praise for their diligence, independence and maturity.
"They earned these outstanding results and we are delighted for them. They have done themselves, their parents and the college proud."
St Joseph's had 94% passes at A-level A*- C, and 100% at A*-E, with 59 students taking A-levels. Also, 74% of passes were graded A*-B.
Students have successfully met the entry requirements for a range of top-flight universities including Warwick, Edinburgh, Kings College, Exeter, Brunel, Bath, Loughborough and Bristol and other institutions.
Distinctions and starred distinctions were also awarded to the majority of St Joseph’s BTEC Business and CTEC Media candidates. Of the 17 taking a BTEC in Sport and Exercise Science, 14 triumphed with triple D* (starred distinction).
Mr Sacha Cinnamond, deputy principal of St Joseph’s College, said, ‘These excellent results at the end of an extraordinary academic year speak of the students’ hard work and the teachers’ dedication.
"Without doubt, students took the end of course assessments in May extremely seriously and revised intensely for them. They fully deserve these superb grades."
This year, students are receiving grades determined by teachers, rather than exams - and based only on what was taught during the pandemic.
Teachers have been required to consider mock exams, coursework and in-class assessments using questions by exam boards.
