Residents of Pinewood and Chantry have told of their upset after cars were broken into in south-west Ipswich.

Twenty reports of attempted and successful break-ins on several roads have been sent to Suffolk police.

The incidents happened between 8pm on Friday, November 29 and the early hours of Monday.

The police have now put out an appeal calling on witnesses to approach them with information about the incidents. 

A police spokesperson said that in 12 incidents items were stolen.

Among the stolen items were a laptop and Samsung phone, cash, cards and Bluetooth earplugs. In one incident, a grey Vauxhall Astra was taken.

He said: "I saw a man, whose face was covered, trying to open the door of my car in the middle of the night on Friday.

"He tried to pull the door, but couldn't get it to budge and when I yelled at him he just ran away.

"It was a bit scary, and I have heard that several people in this neighbourhood have noticed the same, so I hope they can get to the bottom of it."

She said: "It's really weird, the amount of break-ins there were over the weekend. 

"My partner and I saw this man trying to pull the handle on every car door he could see as if he was just waiting to find an unlocked one on his walk down the street."

A spokesperson for the police asked for anyone with dashcam footage or any information about the incidents to come forward.

Suffolk police says that officers have received reports of incidents in Windsor Road, Pin Mill Close, Appleby Close, Cherry Blossom Close, Eccles Road, Cinnabar Close, Dashwood Close, Dove Street, Osborne Road, Brunswick Road, Ashmere Grove, Swinton Close, Quilter Drive, Hawthorn Drive, Radcliffe Drive and Ranelagh Road.

The police have urged residents in the area to be vigilant.
