An Ipswich street trader has praised the kindness of strangers after they had their charity box stolen.

The vendor at The Hot Donuts Stand, outside of M&S in Westgate Street, has said donations from the people had "restored my faith in humanity a little bit".

The theft happened on Thursday last week.

The stand has had the charity box for many years, with funds being donated to the Make-A-Wish charity, after a member of the family utilised the services of the organisation.

"It's just really disappointing really, we opened up in the morning and there it was in it's usual spot.

"Then we were packing up for the day and it wasn't there.

"Why would someone take a charity box? It's just disgusting really."

In the aftermath of the theft, customers had left donations to recoup the lost money to a charity so close to the heart of the business.

The trader added: "We have a had few donations and it has restored my faith in humanity a little bit.

"We haven't asked anyone to do it but it is a really lovely thing for people to do."
