An Ipswich-born businessman says his goal is to make the town "the happier, vibrant place it deserves to be" when he takes over as chair of Ipswich Central in the new year.

Steve Flory, the managing director of Hudson Group, will take up the role following the departure of Terry Baxter, who is stepping down after a decade of service to become the chair of Suffolk New College.

The business improvement district hired him saying he has a passion for supporting local businesses and championing the community, and is eager to apply his commercial expertise to help deliver for the town.

Mr Flory said: “As someone born and bred in Ipswich, I am deeply committed to improving our town and supporting its businesses.

"I’m honoured to take on this role as Chair of Ipswich Central and look forward to working with our extensive professional network to strengthen the BID’s efforts and help Ipswich thrive.

“I don’t believe in standing on the sidelines. Together, we can make Ipswich a safer, more welcoming place where people enjoy spending time.

"My goal is to bring the town back to the happier, vibrant place it deserves to be - for the benefit of businesses, residents, and visitors alike.”
