Proposals to create a five-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO) in Ipswich have been rejected by planners due to 'over-concentration' of house shares on that road.
Madison & Harper Capital Ltd submitted plans in September to change the use of its current four-bedroom home, with space for five residents, at 120 London Road, near Halfords.
However, since this application falls within the council's Article 4 boundary, even though it was less than six bedrooms, the developers had to submit an application to Ipswich Borough Council.
The council has now decided to reject this HMO, as it goes against multiple policy regulations that have been set for the town.
One such regulation states that there should be no house shares located side-by-side and that there should be a maximum of two such developments within any block of 20 homes on a single road.
In this case, not only is neighbouring 118 London Road also an HMO, but this development would be the third in the 20-block limit.
Their statement said: "The proposal will lead to an over-concentration of HMOs along London Road and will have a detrimental effect on the local community."
Additionally, the council also stated that there is not enough parking provision proposed by the development, and the cycle storage would also be inconvenient for residents.
