A town centre underpass which was barricaded off for over a year has finally reopened after work was completed.

The underpass barriers, next to Tesco Express in Civic Drive in Ipswich, had to be removed and placed inside the entrances to prevent pedestrians using the pass.

In October 2023, a request was made for a partial closure of the underpass entrance which goes beneath the roundabout at St Matthew's Street and Civic Drive.

In July it was revealed that the subway was to reopen in the middle of the month with the reinstallation of the barriers - however, this never came to fruition and they remained in place for several months.

Now, the underpass has opened and is open for pedestrians to use once again, 13 months since it closed.

During the time it was closed, a number of concerns were raised by residents and councillors about how unsightly it was and the inconvenience it was causing.
