Plans have officially been lodged to convert the former Tolly Cobbold Brewery in Ipswich.

If given the green light Khan Properties Management Ltd would transform part of the historic building into an 80-bed retirement complex.

According to plans submitted to the council the former Grade II listed brewery would be converted into 38 flats, in addition to the eight-storey block of 80 flats.

A total of 125 one-bedroom flats and three two-bedroom flats will be created as part of the plans.

Cliff Cottage would also be turned into seven additional flats with a new two-storey extension.

The plans also include a restaurant that would be open to members of the public and a section of the former brewery being turned into a museum showing the history of the building and its place in Ipswich life.

There are currently 25 parking spaces at the site but the plans state that there will be an additional 75 created and there will also be room for 116 bikes and 33 mobility scooter electric charging parking spaces at the development.

It is thought the proposal could create 20 full time jobs.

In October last year Mac Khan revealed his detailed plans to restore and transform the brewery into a retirement development

The main brewery building, which overlooks the Cliff Quay terminal of the Port of Ipswich, is in a poor state after the disastrous fire in February 2020

The blaze caused major damage, and much of the brewing equipment that had been in the building has now been lost.

But the external walls are still in place - so the brewery retains its familiar appearance.
