The manager of the farm, Kate Ockleton, has now called for quicker response times to instances of sheep shooting as she said no officer appeared on the scene for 24 hours.

Ms Ockleton said: “Her legs are all healed up. It's just phenomenal. There’s been lots of pain relief and antibiotics and her wounds have healed up really well.

“There will be a pregnancy scan at the end of this month, so we'll find out whether it has caused her to reabsorb her lambs that she should be pregnant with.”

She added: “There's not a huge amount the police can do. But as an industry, I think we would like to see a quicker response to these sorts of things because this happens across the county and across the country.

“The police did mention they had found a body in Needham Lake at the time so a lot of their resources were there.

“I understand that livestock are not as important as human lives, but you’ve got someone running around with a gun and you never know if they might shoot somebody else.”

A Suffolk police spokesman said: “Despite a full investigation we have been unable to make progress on identifying a suspect so while we have closed the case it remains on file and will be reopened should further information come to light.”
