More than 3,000 pupils from 35 schools attended the first FutureSkills Fair in Ipswich.

The event, held at Suffolk New College, aimed to give youngsters a glimpse into the world of work.

More than 70 businesses participated in the fair, offering interactive activities, advice, and guidance to the students.

The sectors represented included construction, creative industries, energy, leisure, tourism, ports, logistics, sports, and retail.

“The whole purpose of the day was to equip young people with the knowledge and motivation they need to make informed decisions about their futures.”

The students, aged 14 to 16, were given the opportunity to engage with businesses and learn more about potential career paths.

"I’d say the day has been engaging and interesting.”

Charlie, from Hadleigh High School, added: “It’s been cool with all of the interactive stuff.”

Chantry Academy careers guidance professional, Vicky Richards, said: “It’s been really good – there have been lots of different sectors for the kids to see.”

Ms Yvonne Hargreaves, head of communication and marketing at the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is passionate about supporting initiatives that bridge the gap between education and industry.

Principal and CEO of the college, Alan Pease, said: "It was a great day that really brought the community together to support the next generation - and it was a pleasure to be the host.”
