Proposals to create a five-person house of multiple occupancy (HMO) in Ipswich have been submitted to planners.

Madison & Harper Capital Ltd is planning to change the use of its current four-bedroom home at 158 St Helen's Street, near Zoar Baptist Chapel.

Documents submitted to Ipswich Borough Council state the applicant wants to alter the existing rooms at the property, to make it into a three-bedroom HMO which can take a maximum of five tenants.

The application, states that there will be six secure cycle parking at the rear of the building with secure electric vehicle charging for two cycles - but there is no car parking space on the site.

The borough council sets an automatic eight-week target date for a decision on all planning applications it receives.

The application falls within the Article 4 boundaries. The application falls within the Article 4 boundaries.  (Image: Google Maps) The application is the latest in recent weeks seeking to convert properties across the town into HMOs.

The council has now issued an Article 4 direction, which the government approved, that will ensure that all developers who want to turn a house into an HMO will need to seek planning permission regardless of the number of occupants.

Since this application falls within the boundaries for the Article 4 direction in the town, it must go through the council to proceed with the plans.

The council will discuss a motion next Wednesday to extend this direction to all of Ipswich.
