A murder trial has been shown a video of a man accused of murdering a two-year-old girl where he told her “do you want me to stab you?”.

Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell and Scott Jeff are currently on trial for the murder of Isabella Wheildon, who was found by police in her pushchair in temporary housing in Sidegate Lane in Ipswich last summer.

In her fourth day in the witness box at Ipswich Crown Court, Gleason-Mitchell was played videos of Jeff talking to her daughter Isabella.

In one video shown to the jury, Jeff is heard saying “do you want me to stab you?” and in another he pointed at her face with his fingers in a gun shape.

Gleason-Mitchell said: “I thought he was doing that because he didn’t have any drugs, that’s why he was acting like this.”

The defendant explained she did not leave her co-accused boyfriend because she did not want to admit he was a poor partner.

The court heard her family had warned her not to re-kindle a relationship with Jeff, as she had previously been with him in 2019.

Prosecutor Sally Howes KC said Gleason-Mitchell’s family had “pleaded” with her to leave Jeff and her mother had offered to let her stay with Isabella but these pleas had been ignored.

“If I went back, they would tell me ‘I told you so’ because of what he was like in 2019,” said Gleason-Mitchell.

Ms Howes continued: “So rather than be proved wrong you decided to stick it out and keep Isabella in that environment?”

“Yes” replied Gleason-Mitchell.

Jeff and Gleason-Mitchell, both 24 and of no fixed address, have denied murdering Isabella between June 26-30 last year.

In addition to denying murder, Jeff has also denied causing or allowing the death of a child between June 26-30 last year and two offences of cruelty to a child.

Gleason-Mitchell has pleaded guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child and two offences of cruelty to a child under 16.

Isabella's body was found in her pushchair in temporary housing in Sidegate Lane, Ipswich in June last year.

The trial continues.
