A shopping centre has revealed when essential repair works will be completed after concerns long standing scaffolding was making the area an "eyesore" and "uninviting".
Work on the St Stephen's Lane entrance to the Buttermarket Shopping Centre has been ongoing, with the most recent development being scaffolding going up to work on the roof.
Residents and visitors of the town, expressed their concern over the appearance of the centre.
One, Chris, who lived in the town for two decades, said: "I find nothing inviting about this town anymore and rarely visit because of this.
"Residents are continually fed up with projects like the Buttermarket one taking an age to finish.
"It's the last thing businesses in the Buttermarket want to see in the run-up to Christmas, it will have a negative effect on trade."
Another resident said: "It's an eyesore. It looks really ugly and uninviting for residents and visitors to the town."
Ipswich Borough Councillor for the Alexandra Ward, John Cook, said: "I fully understand local concerns about the apparent lack of progress to works at the St Stephens Lane entrance to the Buttermarket Shopping Centre.
"We're heading into the most crucial time of year for both retailers and the hospitality trade.
"If I was operating a business in there, I'd be having some fairly serious words with my landlord."
Buttermarket Shopping Centre was quick to reassure residents in Ipswich of the work.
A spokesperson said: "We are currently undertaking a vital programme of roof repairs to safeguard the building’s integrity and address any issues related to water ingress.
"These essential works are designed to ensure the long-term protection of the centre, preventing future water damage and maintaining a secure, welcoming environment.
"Despite the challenges posed by the changing weather, our dedicated team is working diligently to complete the project.
"We aim to have the scaffolding removed by December, unveiling not only the completed roof but also a refreshed look for the centre.
"New planters will be installed to add vibrant greenery to the area and damaged signage will be updated, enhancing the experience for all who visit.
"We appreciate everyone's patience as we carry out these improvements and look forward to revealing a revitalised space for the community."
