Diverted HGVs are denying villagers of a "peaceful night sleep" amid weeks of overnight work on the A14.
Sproughton residents as well as the volunteer speed watch group have complained that traffic diverted from the A14 through the village is a "nuisance".
Councillor Christopher Hudson has taken up their complaints and callied for changes to be made in regards to villagers safety and the least amount of disruptions.
National Highways, who are in charge of the A14, apologised for the inconvenience and said that they recognised how disruptive the diversion has been to residents.
Andrew Bannan, one of the volunteers, raised the issue of the number of vehicles and the extreme sounds they make with Cllr Hudson and MP James Cartlidge.
He said: "It has now become patently clear to me that Highways and Suffolk County Council lack the basic level of humanity that would prevent the authorisation of torturous ongoing nightly diversions of A road traffic including HGV’s at speeds in excess of the 30mph limit through a semi-rural village that incidentally has a 7.5 tonne loading only weight restriction.
"It is commonplace to limit HGV traffic from utilising routes overnight through residential areas while residents have a basic human right to be able to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep - a right many Sproughton residents are currently being denied."
The diversion exists due to work being done on the A14 between Claydon and Copdock, which will stay in place till November 29.
overlay asphalt on the concrete section of the road which will reduce overall noise and lower the frequency of repairs in the future.
National Highways says that this is being done toNational Highways Project Manager Kevin Barry said: “We understand and recognise how disruptive the diversion is to residents and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Councillor Christopher Hudson said that this was entirely avoidable and that more should have been done to protect the residents.
"This is basically a nightmare for them, even though it means that they cannot sleep during the night at all," he said.
"I am shocked and appalled at the way that this has been done."
