A music venue in Ipswich has been granted permission to be used on a full time basis allowing for "more clarity, events and opportunities" for festival organisers.

The Baths in Civic Drive has been used as a live music venue since 2021 with events held on an occasional basis.

Brighten The Corners have now been granted permission by Ipswich Borough Council to use the space as a full time, permanent music venue with space for the education and training of up-and-coming young artists and those interested in the live music sector.

The 300-capacity venue has been used to host a number of gigs over the years, including being one of the music venues during the Brighten The Corners Festival and in 1971, hosted rock legends Led Zeppelin.

Joe Bailey, chief executive of Brighten The Corners, said: "We are delighted to have received planning permission for change of use at The Baths.

"In addition to this we now have a full premises license.

"Having operated on Temporary Event Notice licences over the last couple of years we are now able to plan for the future with more clarity and offer more events and opportunities throughout the year at The Baths as well as develop ideas on how we can use the whole of the building to best benefit the town and wider region in the long term."

The first floor of The Baths would be used as an educational space, which includes an XR Studio, a podcast recording area and a video production space.

The ground floor comprises of the stage, a green room, a bar area, and the spectator area.
