A new tattoo studio has joined a host of independent shops in a busy street in Ipswich in what is a first business venture for the owner.

Sunlight Tattoo has officially opened its doors in St Nicholas Street.

The tattoo studio is owned by Leigh Drake, who has been tattooing people in Ipswich for more than 10 years.

He said: "It's a very nice location for the tattoo studio, one of the best streets I would say.

"It's full of independent businesses so thought it would be nice to join in.

"This is my first business owning so it's quite scary but the first week has been great.

"I have had a lot of positivity and comments have been great about the look of the shop so it has done well so far."

He and another tattooist who has also been operating in Ipswich for over 10 years, will be working in the studio, which opened on October 26.

The 38-year-old continued: "There is a lot of tattoo studios in Ipswich now.

"What makes us different is the look of the studio, which is completely different.

"I think a lot of studio's now, everything looks very clinical and white with no pictures on the walls and obviously everything needs to be clinical, but you can also make things look a bit crazy at the same time.

"It's quite wacky and has a nice 70s feel to it. A vintage feel which isn't often done."

The tattoo studio specialises in traditional tattoos, but the pair are able to do a variety of tattoo styles, able to cater for the range of customers that will visit.
