Taking action against businesses is "not something taken lightly" say licensing bosses amid a number of bars in the town being served with licence reviews over the last month.

Ipswich Borough Council issued the message to venues after several meetings of the Licensing & Regulatory Sub-Committee.

On Monday, October 28, the local authority accepted recommendations made by the police about A Listers at Aurora following concerns raised by residents about "unruly behaviour".

The council decided that the waterfront bar must have two two licenced door staff in place on certain days and customers sitting outside will also need to be given a plastic cup for their drinks.

Police have also asked the council to review the licence of the Supper Club bar in Tacket Street following a raid in the early hours of Saturday October 20 which led to the arrest of three men for drug related offences.

The arrest of three men also on October 20 for drugs related offences at the Waterlily Pub in St Helen's Street prompted police to submit a premises licence review.

Hasan Demaj the owner of Bar A-Z in Great Colman Street agreed to convert the bar into a restaurant and reduce its service hours following a licensing and regulatory sub-committee meeting on Tuesday, October 8, amid claims that the bar wasn't adhering to its licensing conditions.

Kelvin Cracknell Labour and Co-operative borough councillor for Rushmere said; "Forming a subcommittee and taking this kind of formal action is not something the Borough licencing team take lightly.

"My experience from sitting on similar subcommittees in the past is that all parties will receive a fair hearing, and where breaches have occurred, appropriate action will be taken."
