Ipswich residents are being urged not to fall for a scam offering months of bus travel. 

A fake page has appeared on Facebook offering 500 Ipswich Buses Smartcards with six months of travel for just £2 each. 

A post by the fraudulent page, which is named Ipswich public transport smart card, said: "Ipswich Buses invites you to join an initiative to enhance city mobility and promote public transport."

The post urges people to follow the link as soon as possible because there is limited time to claim the offer.

Suffolk Trading Standards has confirmed the Facebook page and post is a scam. 

A spokesman for the authority said: "This is not a genuine offer and we urge you not to click on any links or provide personal data. 

"The post mimics city transport authorities and bus operators in cities including Edinburgh, Bristol, Newcastle and Brighton."

Anyone who believes they have been targeted by the scam is advised to speak to their bank and report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040.
