One of the highlights of the festive season countdown will see Ipswich town centre illuminated with a sparkling display.
Ipswich Borough Council has announced that from 4pm to 7.30pm on Sunday, November 17, the centre of Ipswich on the Cornhill will see this year's Christmas lights switch-on event.
Eight roads will close from 1pm to 10pm including:
- Princes Street: From Thoroughfare to side of Town Hall
- Thoroughfare: From Princes Street to Tavern Street
- Tavern Street: From Cornhill to Upper Brook Street
- Lloyds Avenue: From Cornhill northbound for 50 metres
- Lion Street From side of Town Hall to Westgate Street:
- Westgate Street: From The Thoroughfare to Cornhill
- St Lawrence: Street Entire length
- The Cornhill
The lights will be switched on at 6.45pm by the mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Elango Elavalakan.
The event will be hosted by Suffolk Sounds and will see performances from Ipswich Regent Theatre’s Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime.
Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis and chairman and CEO Mark Ashton will also be present.
Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for culture and customers, said: "The Christmas lights switch-on is always a magical time for Ipswich, and we’re thrilled to welcome the community back for this year’s celebration."
