A doctor who worked at Ipswich Hospital has been struck off following complaints about his conduct from colleagues.

Dr Hosam Halim's medical registration has been suspended following a hearing of the Medical Practitioner's Tribunal Service (MPTS).

The doctor, who qualified in 2000, was struck off after incidents of misconduct at Ipswich Hospital, the Royal Free London Hospital and Barnet Hospital.

The tribunal was told how Dr Halim had repeatedly behaved inappropriately towards a female colleague, known as Ms G, while working at Ipswich Hospital on August 13, 2022.

He asked her questions including whether she was single, why she was single and asked her: "Why don't you marry me?"

He also followed her around the hospital during the 10 hours Ms G was at the Heath Road site on that day to such an extent that Ms G asked someone to give her a call to give her an excuse to leave the room.

Dr Halim would also follow her when she was on the phone, put his ear close to her head to listen to her conversations, and quizzed her on who she was talking to.

In a witness statement, the Ms G, who hasn't been named, said: "I did not think he was being aggressive, and I didn't feel scared, I just felt very uncomfortable."

She told the tribunal that she repeatedly told Dr Halim that he was  harassing her and she would report him for sexual harassment but despite her warnings his behaviour continued.

Dr Halim denied following her around, stating he thought he was joking with her and behaving in a light-hearted manner on the day.

The tribunal heard that Dr Halim believed her complaint had been exaggerated due to her having prejudice towards him as an Egyptian.

The incident at Ipswich Hospital was in addition to allegations of misconduct at the Royal Free London Hospital and Barnet Hospital.

He was found to provide poor clinical care to two patients, including prescribing an excessive dose of medicine and performing an inappropriate digital examination on a vulnerable 17-year-old.

The tribunal also found his treatment of two work colleagues, including Ms G at Ipswich Hospital, to be sexually motivated.

The tribunal was satisfied that an immediate order was necessary to protect members of the public and agreed that Dr Halim's registration should be suspended subject to appeal.

East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) chose not to provide a statement due to Dr Halim no longer being employed by ESNEFT.
