Plans to open a supermarket at the former Lloyds Bank site in Bramford Road have been approved by the council.
Lloyds Bank ceased operations on the site in May 2023, after announcing the closure of 40 banks across the country.
The building has been vacant ever since. However, Family Supermarket Limited has since taken over the site and applied for it to be made into a retail store.
The application was submitted to Ipswich Borough Council in August on behalf of the store by Beanland Associates Architects.
The council has approved these plans, and said that work can be done between 7.45am and 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with no work taking place on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
The applicants sought permission for external work on windows and to make other internal changes to the site.
The supermarket will have 16 car parking spaces and has applied to extend the building to accommodate more room for food retailing.
They have now also sent a subsequent application to add vinyl illustrations in all street-level windows.
Lloyds Bank had moved out of the branch after they reported a 60% fall in people entering the bank over five years as more and more people do their banking online.
They continue to operate from their office at the Cornhill.
