Plans have been submitted for the region's largest independent retail chain, with the aim to open the store by next spring.

Last week, the East of England Co-op announced that they will be creating a new store at 345 Woodbridge Road on the site of a former Renault dealership.

They have now submitted the plans for the conversion to Ipswich Borough Council.

The plans include changing the use of the unit from a showroom to a convenience store, as well as the creation of a fenced compound.

They are also looking to install solar panels on the roof and electric vehicle charging points within their car park - in a bid to be more environmentally friendly.

The new site will replace East of England Co-op's current store in Brunswick Road, with all workers relocating to the new site.

The current store is owned by the retailer which will be "exploring opportunities" for the site.

The new Woodbridge Road store will be a larger, more modern store and will host a wider range of products and services.
