The headteacher of an Ipswich school has praised his staff and students for its consistently high progress scores.

Earlier this year Copleston High School was rated 'Good' by Ofsted and now the the school is celebrating for consistently high Progress 8 results over the last eight years.

The figure measures students’ grades compared to what they were predicted.

Headteacher Andy Green said:  “I think people know we are a good school, but I don’t think they realise that we have performed at a consistently high standard over such a considerable stretch of time.

“Our Progress 8 results over the last eight years have been tremendous, with students achieving much higher grades than predicted year in and year out.”

Progress 8 scores reveal students’ achievements compared to their predicted grades – with a 0 score showing they achieved what they were predicted, and a score above 0 showing how many grades higher they attained.

Since 2017, excluding the two pandemic years, the school has scored above 0.36, growing to 0.56 in 2023 - with students averaging more than half a grade above what they were expected to achieve.

“To achieve this consistently over such a long period of time is testament to the superb staff, students and supportive parents that have helped to embed a culture of sustained success,” said Mr Green.

“Our students achieve more than predicted every year, which shows the ethos of hard work we cultivate here at Copleston.”

During the Ofsted report pupils at the school were praised throughout the report, with inspectors nothing that they "work well collaboratively, listening and learning from one another".

Ofsted also found that pupils' behaviour was "exemplary in and out of lessons", and students have "highly positive attitudes to learning".
