An air ambulance was spotted above Ipswich after a water rescue was undertaken at the Waterfront.

Emergency services were called to Helena Road next to Ipswich Waterfront at about 3.15pm on Tuesday to reports of a person in the water.

Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, the East of England Ambulance Service and Coastguard were all at the scene.

An air ambulance was also at the scene of the incident.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the reports they received indicated the person fell into the water. 

The incident occurred at the end of Neptune Marina, past A Listers at Aurora and nearer to the Port of Ipswich.

The air ambulance was seen circling the area around the waterfront for nearly an hour but witnesses say it was unable to land.

Crews from Ipswich East, Princes Street and Bury St Edmunds fire stations were at the scene.
