A man and woman have gone on trial accused of murdering a two-year-old girl in Ipswich last year.
Before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday ( October 7) were Scott Jeff, 24, and Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, 24, of no fixed address.
They have both denied murdering Isabella Wheildon between June 26 and June 30 last year
Jeff has also denied causing or allowing the death of a child between June 26 and June 30 last year.
He has further denied cruelty to a child under 16 in relation to cocaine and a similar offence in relation to cannabis.
Although Gleason-Mitchell has denied murder she has admitted causing or allowing the death of a child and two offences of cruelty to a child under 16 in relation to cocaine and cannabis.
A jury was empanelled on Monday afternoon and prosecution counsel Sally Howe KC is expected to open the case to the jury on Tuesday (October 8).
The trial, which is expected to last between six and eight weeks, is being heard by High Court judge, The Hon. Mr Justice Neil Garnham.
The defendants, who are both formerly of Bedfordshire, were charged with the murder of Isabella after her body was discovered at a temporary housing unit in Sidegate Lane in Ipswich on June 30 last year.
Isabella was born in Stevenage in Hertfordshire on September 22, 2020.
