Community leaders have welcomed the news that more food outlets are opening in one street in Ipswich town centre.

Dogs Head Street in Ipswich has seen a number of food and drink outlets open or apply to open in recent weeks and months.

The Plough, Kaspa's Desserts and Best Kebab Centre have already been present on the street for a number of years, but the addition of Daily Shawarma, Wake Up Coffee and an application for a new Pepe's Piri Piri has seen the street become a possible future hub for food and drink in the town centre.

Should the Pepe's Piri Piri application be approved by the council, just in Dogs Head Street there will be the cuisines of Portugal, Turkey and the Middle East on offer, as well as desserts and a range of food served at the Plough.

Elsewhere in the town, a number of further cuisines are on offer, including Greek, Italian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, American and English.

With the planned opening of the new Tower Street Food Hall, in the former Yates, there are set to be more food and drink offerings to be available to the residents of Ipswich in the near future.

Lee Walker, chief executive of Ipswich Central, the Business Improvement District for the town centre, said: "It is great to see more businesses opening in Ipswich.

John Cook, Ipswich borough councillor for the Alexandra Ward, which incorporates Dogs Head Street, added: "I wish all new businesses in my ward the very best of luck.
