A Suffolk parish council is vowing to continue its opposition to plans to build 18 homes in a village - which received 41 objections - after work started to clear the site.

Levington Parish Council had previously raised concerns about the outline plans for the land at Red House Farm in Bridge Road, Levington, particularly about traffic congestion, with the number of entrances to the development being reduced from three to two.

In addition, a lack of services for the 18 homes in a small village was also cited, along with fears about the impact the homes would have on an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which bordered the site.

The council's clerk Angie Buggs said: "Our views have not changed. We stand by what we had said."

Applicant Jeanette Vincent submitted plans to East Suffolk Council, which included provision for six affordable homes and were approved in April.

However, a further "reserved matters" application will need to be submitted and approved before building work can begin, which details the layout and appearance of the development.

The land where the homes are set to be built is currently a paddocks between Red House farmhouse and Bridge Road.

Levington residents wrote to the council to oppose the outline plans, raising concerns about the impact the new homes would have on the water mains and sewage system, as well as the number of homes being too high and a lack of parking provision for the new residents.

Calls were also made for a proposed footpath to be extended, while the gardens with the new homes were considered too small.

One resident, Nick Hopkins, told the council: "This is not a small development of 18 houses.

"To Levingtonians this is a massive, high density development, with a potentially 20% increase in housing provision within the village.

"The site borders an AONB and sits opposite an award-winning development (Red House Walk).

"The site is better suited to seven or eight houses in keeping with the rest of the village."
