Ipswich St Elizabeth Hospice launches its firewalk challenge

The event, held at Ipswich Rugby Club on Friday, October 18, will see fire walkers cross a five metre stretch of red-hot embers barefoot.

On the day, the participants will receive an hour of training before the challenge which the hospice describe as walking on hot sand. 

'Brave soles' will take on the challenge this year (Image: Robert Foyers) All of the proceeds will go towards St Elizabeth Hospice, which provides free services to improve life for people living with life limiting illnesses across Suffolk. 

James Fox-Golding, events and challenges manager at the hospice, said: "Firewalk is back again this year, offering the perfect fundraising challenge to warm up ahead of autumn while supporting St Elizabeth Hospice.

"If you're up for a fundraising challenge with a fiery twist, this event is for you. Every penny raised will make a real difference to our patients and their families."

Two sessions will be held on the day, between 3.30pm to 6pm and 7pm to 9.30pm, with barbecue food on offer courtesy of Ipswich Rugby Club. 

Upon completion, each firewalker will receive a medal for completing the challenge and T-shirt - as well as a burger or hot dog during the session.

Spectators to the event will get free entry and parking and the site is fully accessible, while vegetarian food options will also be available to purchase.

This year's challenge is sponsored by Drax, a renewable energy company engaged in production of power, biomass and sale of renewable energy to businesses.
