An Ipswich care home was overjoyed when their music video caught the eye of the very band who sang it.

Residents of Greensleeves’ Henley House, in the Whitton part of town, have been busily working on their own rendition of Black Lace’s Superman.

They shared the finished music video on Facebook, as part of Greensleeves’ Rock Against Dementia Groove Fest 2024.

In the video, residents act out the commands in the iconic single, clapping, feigning sleep and sneezing.

The intention was simply to raise awareness of dementia while having some fun – and so staff and residents were shocked and delighted when they realised that their video had come to the attention of the band itself.

Craig Harper, who is a current member of Black Lace, has also shared the post, commenting: “This is brilliant. Well done, Henley House.”

Black Lace shot to fame in 1979, when they represented the UK in that year's Eurovision Song Contest.

Superman is one of the band’s best-known anthems, as is Do the Conga and the iconic Agadoo.

We are very lucky that our music crosses the generations from the very young to the still young at heart.

“It’s heart-warming to see people enjoying themselves to our songs as that’s what it’s all about!”

A spokeswoman for Henley House said: “Henley House residents had a blast participating in this year's Greensleeves Rock Against Dementia Groove Fest.

“The lively event brought back cherished memories for many residents and filled the air with joyful music and laughter. Staff and residents alike joined in the fun, dancing and singing along to a classic tune.

“When we noticed Black Lace had shared our post, we were overwhelmed. Residents are hoping he might even come along to Henley House.”

They added that they intend to sing a Christmas song, and this time have their hopes set on Ed Sheeran coming on board.
