Improvement works including a new dual carriageway and upgraded roundabouts along the A12 are heading out to public consultation.

Suffolk County Council will host a series of meetings starting from Thursday, September 26 for the community to give their feedback on the proposals.

The proposed scheme will see upgrades to junctions and roundabouts between the A14 at Seven Hills and the A1152 at Woods Lane in Melton.

It will also involve introducing a new dual-carriageway section between the B1438 and B1079 at Woodbridge, replacing the current single-carriageway.

The council say the plans will help to tackle congestion and provide space for future growth.

They added that they will also help to improve conditions for all road users in the area, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for transport strategy, planning and waste, Councillor Chris Chambers, said: “I am delighted to see this important project progressing closer to delivery.

"The county council is firmly committed to delivering on these improvements, which look set to provide major benefits to all those travelling between our two largest towns, Ipswich and Lowestoft.

“Following public consultation back in 2021 and a commitment of government funding last year, we are now in a position to share our detailed designs and proposals with residents.

“These improvements will provide greater access to the east coast, an area with several Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) including Sizewell C, easing congestion and network disruption during its construction.

"I encourage residents to take a look at the plans, read up on the benefits and let us know their thoughts.”

The consultation is open until Tuesday, October 29.

In person events will be held on September 26 between 5.30pm and 8:30pm Woodbridge Community Hall, Woodbridge, between 2pm and 5pm in Martlesham Community Hall on Saturday, September 28, and between 4pm and 7pm at Shire Hall in Woodbridge on October 1.
