From a caravan in Christchurch Park to a station in Tower Street, a radio station broadcasting in Ipswich has grown a lot in its 35 years.

On Tuesday, Ipswich Community Radio (ICR) will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a day of music from 1989, along with birthday and celebration tunes.

The station will also give listeners a chance to tour their venue from 1pm to 8pm.

Friday Breakfast Show co-host Izzy Lane said: "If you've ever been part of ICR, we would love to see you, and if you've never been to ICR and are curious, do pop along and mingle with broadcasters and members."

The station's first-ever broadcast took place during the long weekend of September 15 to 17, 1989.

The station was set up in the back of a caravan in Christchurch Park and through the years has grown and moved to its studio in Tower Street.

The station got an FM licence in 2006 and has been broadcasting under Ofcom regulation at 105.7FM since 2007.

Its transmitter currently sits on the roof of Chantry High School, and listeners can tune into it from Ipswich, Kesgrave and parts of north-east Essex.

"I'm proud to have been involved with ICR and hopefully will continue as long as possible."

Ipswich Community Radio showcases a broad range of music genres, from house and techno to ambient and gospel.

It also aims to give a stage to local bands to put their music out for a larger audience.

Some of the shows also include music from other cultures, and the station is currently working on Hospital Radio Ipswich - which broadcasts every Thursday evening.

Members who may want to join the community station can get full training and mentoring from ICR, with the opportunity to host their own music hour or talk shows.
