A 60-year-old football fan has denied charges of assault after allegedly falling on supporters during an FA Cup clash at Portman Road.
The incident is said to have taken place during Ipswich Town's fourth round match with non-league side Maidstone United on Saturday, January 27.
John Ryan, 60, of Railway Street, Chatham, in Kent, was before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating.
The charges relate to two victims.
The court heard the defendant was watching the game and was celebrating in the stadium’s upper tier when Maidstone United scored in the first half.
The incident is said to have happened after the goal and it is alleged he rolled off the roof and onto supporters below.
Ryan pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on unconditional bail pending a plea and trial preparation hearing to be held on October 14 at Ipswich Crown Court.
