A 33-year-old Ipswich man has been handed a suspended sentence for the theft of more than £300 worth of goods from Boots over two days.

Harry Jones, of Bramford Road in the town, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court in August charged with two counts of theft from a shop.

The first incident happened on July 24 at Boots, with Jones accused of stealing men's razor packs worth a total of £164.50 from the retailer.

The second theft he was accused of was the taking of razors and other toiletries, worth £189.24, from the shop the next day.

Jones pleaded guilty to both of the charges when he appeared before court.

He was instructed to pay £200 in compensation to Boots.

Jones was handed a jail term of six months, which was suspended as the defendant had expressed a willingness to seek treatment for his mental health issues and drug addiction, a court listing said.

The thefts from Boots were committed while Jones was on bail awaiting sentence for another matter.
