A teenager has been charged after he was allegedly spotted with an imitation firearm in Ipswich.

Police were called to Key Street, near Ipswich Waterfront, at about 3.30pm on Saturday, September 7 after receiving reports of a male seen with a suspected firearm.

Officers established that the man had entered a property in College Street.

Key Street and College Street were then closed while officers attended the property. 

A police cordon was also set up from Foundation Street to the roundabout at Star Lane, causing heavy traffic in the area.

Shortly after, two males, aged 14 and 19, were arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

Nineteen-year-old Alexandru Dobri of College Street, Ipswich, has now been charged with being in possession in a public place with an imitation firearm, namely a BB gun.

He was released on bail to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 15 at 1.15pm.

A second male has been released under an investigation pending further enquiries.
