Ipswich Borough Council is set to discuss plans for a Grade II-listed building in the town centre to be converted into three self-contained houses.

Ipswich Borough Council will discuss at next week's planning committee meeting the plans for Elm House to change into houses.

One five bedroom house designed for six people, one two-bed for four people and a four-bed property, designed for eight people.

Each of the three properties to be built in Elm House, which was built in the 19th century, will also be equipped with a spacious kitchen, living and dining area.

These plans were submitted in February, after similar plans were submitted in July 2023, but these were refused by the council in November last year as it was deemed the scheme would "cause harm to the special architecture and historic interest of the building."

The recommendation this time for the council, however, is to grant the application.

Issues were raised from the public over potential noise impact from nearby music and event venues, concern regarding bin storage, loss of privacy and a lack of parking, with no parking being provided at Elm House.
