10 Suffolk towns named among best places to live in England

The list, which compiles cities, towns and villages, is designed to be an insider guide to prospective house buyers looking to relocate.

Here are the 10 location in Suffolk that featured on the list.

1. Woodbridge 

Sitting on the edge of the River Deben east of Ipswich, Woodbridge is a vibrant and pretty town surrounded by the best that the Suffolk countryside has to offer.

Across the river from the town is Sutton Hoo, an Anglo-Saxon burial ground and National Trust site where visitors can uncover the history of the area they live in.

2. Bury St Edmunds 

Bury St Edmunds, which has been crowned by some as the foodie capital of the county, has been included in the list as one of the best places to live in Suffolk.

Home to the Abbey Gardens Bury St Edmunds is full of history and full of independent shops. 

3. Southwold 

The town is home to what has been repeatedly named one of the best beaches in England which makes people feel like they are on holiday everyday.

The area is also a great place to go bird spotting with bitterns, curlews and marsh harriers just some of the species spotted in the coastal marshes at RSPB Minsmere and Dunwich Heath nearby. 

4. Lavenham 

Lavenham, near Sudbury, is considered to be Britain's best preserved medieval village and has a colourful high street features wonky, film-set style timber-framed buildings, unique shops and gives people a chance to step back in time. 

The National Trust museum - the Lavenham Guildhall - and the Crooked House are considered to be well worth a visit along, with the village's independent shops, beautiful tearooms and pubs.

5. Framlingham

Home to the iconic castle on the hill Framlingham is an ancient market town. 

Local estate agents also named it one of the most beautiful places in Suffolk. 

Alexander McNab, part of the residential sales team at Savills Suffolk said: "There are some excellent restaurants – the Italian Watson and Walpole, which is in both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide, is one of my favourites and has perhaps the tastiest tiramisu I’ve ever had."

6. Long Melford

Long Melford is becoming an increasingly popular location for people looking to relocate, according to estate agents.

Katy Stephenson, associate director in the residential sales team at Savills, said: "There is plenty of countryside to enjoy for walks and rides, complemented some wonderful historic timber framed houses.

The village is also becoming a top foodie destination – with a number of independent cafes and businesses along its high street. 

7. Beccles

Found in the Waveney valley, Beccles is the perfect base for those who want to get as much out of Suffolk and Norfolk as they can thanks to the town's ideal location.

Beccles is also home to some of the best sausage rolls in the county. 

8. East Bergholt 

East Bergholt have been named as one of the most sought-after postcodes in the county.

The village in the Stour Valley and is best known for being the birthplace of painter John Constable.

With a variety of elegant houses, many of which date back to the 13th century, the village is a beautiful place to visit all year round. 

9. Kersey

This village, which is arguably one of the most unspoiled in the county, is perhaps best known for the 'Kersey Splash', a stream that runs through the main road.

Although many of the homes have traditional tiled roofs you may be able to find one or two thatched cottages nestled in the village. 

10. Halesworth 

The "underrated" east Suffolk town has recently been named one of the best places to buy a home in the UK.

Halesworth has been included on a list compiled by The Sunday Times as one of the best places to invest and live in the country. 

The east Suffolk town is one of the county's hidden gems and is always worth a visit.
