People across Suffolk will get the chance to see some of the world's best cyclists as the final stages of the national cycling event gets underway in Suffolk.

The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain final, a UK-based cycling racing event that started in 1945, is taking place in Suffolk today, with racers taking on a gruelling 158 kilometer race from Lowestoft to Felixstowe.

This is the seventh time the event has come to Suffolk, but the first time the final stage has ever taken in place in the county. 

The race begun at 11am from Lowestoft's promenade.

Cyclists will first head inland from Lowestoft, riding via Beccles and Bungay, and then through Halesworth, Framlingham, and Saxmundham.

Following this, they will then head along the Suffolk coast between Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.

The second half of the race will then take the racers through Snape, Wickham Market, Kesgrave, and Martlesham, before finishing in Sea Road in Felixstowe.

Key Timings

11am - the race will begin and racers will leave Lowestoft.

11.40am - the first immediate sprint is likely to take place in Beccles

1.30pm - cyclists likely to reach Adelburgh 

Roughly 2.20pm - the final sprint will begin in Grundisburgh

Roughly 3.06pm - fans can expect the riders to reach the finish area in Sea Road, Felixstowe.

Road closures 

There will also be rolling road closures in operation for about 15 minutes before the estimated time of arrival of cyclists and until 10 minutes after the last rider has passed.

Undercliff Road West from Convalescent Hill to Spa Pavilion

A one-way system will be in place eastbound along Undercliff Road West from Langer Road to Convalescent Hill until 2pm, when the road will close until 5pm.

Parking will also be suspended between 11am and 3.30pm on Sunday, September 8 on Garrison Lane and Langer Road. 

Across the weekend all short stay car parks in Felixstowe will become long stay car parks will all-day parking available.
