A major town centre road was closed after police attended an incident where an "imitation firearm" was seized.

Police were called to Key Street, near Ipswich waterfront, at around 3.30pm after receiving reports of a male seen with a suspected firearm.

A perimeter was up around Key Street and the surrounding area.

​A dog unit was also seen along with multiple police vehicles stopping traffic.

The police perimeter extended from Foundation Street to the roundabout at Star Lane and caused heavy traffic in the area.

Police later confirmed that two males, aged 14 and 19, were arrested at the scene and taken into custody as an imitation firearm was seized.

Following the incident, Key Street was later fully reopened at around 6.30pm.
