A Chantry couple were left in shock after finding their car had been stolen.

Deanne Buckley, 29, of Speedwell Road in Ipswich, woke up on Thursday to find that their family's black Vauxhall Zafira had been stolen during the night.

It was their family car, with newly installed car seats for their three children to use.

Additionally, Mrs Buckley said that thieves had also broken into the her husband Kye Maka's 2007 Ford Pinto.

The thieves had left the doors of this car open and picked up the aftershave that Mr Maka had left in it.

The 29-year-old said: "We are just a bit shocked, to be honest, because we have lived here for nearly three years and nothing has ever happened on this road.

"It has always been a safe, quiet road and now this incident has made us quite anxious.

"The kids are scared that someone's going to come back."

She added that the incident was not just restricted to their car, but that the thieves had tried to enter four other cars along the street.

All of the cars were parked along the road as homes in Speedwell Road do not have driveways.

The incident has been reported to police with anyone with information to contact the Crime Coordination Centre, quoting CAD 37 of September 5.

However, they note that there has been an increased number of vehicle crimes across the county.

Police reiterated their advice to residents to keep their vehicles safe by ensuring cars are locked and the keys are secured.

Suffolk Constabulary also advise residents to be aware of illegal carjackers and tow trucks.

A spokesperson for them said: "It’s always advisable to avoid parking in dark and secluded areas.

"It’s worth an extra five or ten-minute walk if it means your vehicle is left in a well-lit and busier street."
