The poshest train in Britain arrived in Ipswich as many gathered to board for a trip of luxury. 

The Northern Belle departed from the station at 12.45pm on Friday and welcomed diners on board for a champagne afternoon tea. 

The luxury train, which started its journey in Norwich, features a 1930s Pullman Carriage reminiscent of the golden age of travel. 

Once aboard, guests were treated to a bottle of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut NV Champagne before being offered a selection sandwiches, cakes and scones as they travelled through the countryside.

Throughout the train ride a range of entertainment travelled through the carriages including strolling musicians and a conjurer showing mind-bending tricks.

Many of the passengers aboard the train were toasting significant milestones. 

Glynnis De'Ath, who lives in Beccles, was on board with her daughter Jude to celebrate her birthday. 

She said: "It was a present from my daughter and I found out on my 70th birthday back in June - I am excited to spend the day with her."

Husband and wife Julie and Jon Bevan travelled from Bedford to enjoy a trip on the train. 

Mr Bevan said: "My wife has wanted to go on an old train like this for years. 

"Julie's sister went on a Belmond one in London and that was the last straw - I had to take her."

The Northern Belle will be returning to Ipswich on Saturday, December 7, as part of a Christmas Lunch trip. 

The train will depart from Norwich station twice on the day offering a seven-course meal to diners. 

Tickets cost £395 per passenger or can be upgrade to Laurent-Perrier Class for an additional £95 per person.
