A two-storey car showroom could be converted into a grocery shop employing up to 20 people.
Proposals have been submitted for the Skoda showroom in Woodbridge Road in Ipswich to create the shop.
The showroom has been used as such since 2002, and the site consists of offices, a kitchen and retail floor space.
The proposed change of use will require minor external alterations to the building and site including the removal of two windows and the installation of a roller-shutter delivery door.
The car park will be rearranged also to provide parking for 20 cars plus three disabled spaces.
The new retail unit will have opening hours of between 6am and 11pm seven days a week, and the shop will employ approximately 15 to 20 people.
The plans also state that given the size of the store, the intention is that it will operate for convenience retail purposes serving day-to-day shopping needs.
The plans also stated that the proposals are "not considered to have any adverse effect on the neighbouring properties, and the retail use is considered to be beneficial to the local community."
