Passengers in Ipswich can now ride across town with Uber as the company launches its rides.

The San Francisco-based taxi-app had applied for its own licence in town in May this year, and as of Wednesday has launched its services.

Uber said that their launch was in response to rising demand with over 4,000 residents opening the app looking for a trip every week.

General manager of Uber UK Andrew Brem said: “We are extremely proud to launch Uber in Ipswich where we have been seeing increased demand for our services.

"By bringing Uber to the town we want to help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers, boost transport options for passengers, and support the local economy."

The cab-hailing app offers riders the chance to look at driver ratings and track their taxi on GPS as well as offering them emergency support and numerous safety functions.

They say all drivers are professional and fully licenced and will receive formal representation through GMB Union.

Uber added that each driver who works under them will have protections including a pension, holiday pay and guaranteed National Living Wage.

The multi-national company entered Ipswich in 2021, as it partnered with Hawk Express to deliver private services across the town.
