Rob Bridgeman represents Bridge at Suffolk County Council and expressed concerns over women's safety.

He said: "I'm horrified by this happening in our town centre as it should be safe for every female visiting at night sexual violence is a disgusting crime and we need to see stiffer sentencing and better prosecution rates.

"I'd also like to see safe walking routes introduced and more police patrolling on foot in the early hours.

"My thoughts go out to the lady involved and hope a prosecution will follow quickly."

Mr Bridgeman has previously advocated for other safety requirements, such as adding lighting to dark stretches of the waterfront.
