A pub in Whitehouse in Ipswich is set to reopen after a £120,000 refurbishment that has seen its interiors completely re-done.

Since taking over ownership of the pub in February, Sarah and Giulio Battistetti have undertaken a five-month-long renovation of the venue, starting in April.

Now the renovation is complete, from Tuesday it will open to the general public for drinks, with the menu relaunching on Thursday.

The couple have spent all of their life savings on the pub, but argue that the community needs it.

Mrs Battistetti said: "I think this pub is really needed in the community. This pub has been open as a wet pub, but it has just got a horrific reputation.

"It's been just run down and derelict for the past 40 years, which has meant that probably a good 95% of people from the Whitehouse estate have never been here or haven't been here in a long time."

She added that she is aiming to establish a good reputation for the pub.

"I just think the community really needs somewhere where they can feel welcomed," she added.

The pub will now have a more community feel, as it will hold events in the beer garden and engage with people in Whitehouse.

The owners will also host several community events and wish for the venue to act like a cafe during the day where people can come in and sit.

They will also host a launch event on September 21.

The pub's renovations included a new beer garden, keg line, sitting area, tables and more.

The owners also received £30,000 from Ipswich Borough Council's Towns Deal Fund, which helped them redo the toilets.

The pub will also have a café within it, and it will not be selling alcohol before 5pm.

The Flying Horse will be open from 7.30am to 10pm Tuesday to Thursday, and from 7.30am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday the pub will close at 9pm.

It will be closed on Mondays.
